Your say on the SPA: 2025 AGM agenda

This year's SPA National Conference is almost here, and we can't wait to be in Exeter for #SPANC25.

We've got a jam-packed agenda of panels, workshops, networking and awards ahead as we prepare to descend on Sandy Park Conference Centre on 4-6 April.

One of the most important things we’ll do over the course of the weekend will be holding our Annual General Meeting. Every year we bring our members together to elect a new committee, as well as determine the focus of our organisation for the year ahead.

This year’s AGM is going to be held on Sunday 6 April, the last day of #SPANC25, at 11:30am.

We’ll be discussing any motions which have proposed by members, receiving a Trustees’ report and financial accounts, as well as electing all six Executive Officers.

To get ahead of how it will play out, and what you and other members will get a say on, take a look through our full 2025 AGM agenda here

Ultimately the AGM is one of the main ways of our members can lead and direct our organisation, through:
  1. Scrutinising the work of the SPA, by looking over and questioning reports and accounts;
  2. Steering the direction and strategy of the SPA, by submitting, discussing and then voting on motions; and
  3. Standing for election, and vote to elect officers and trustees to lead the SPA for the next year (and beyond).

You'll be able to decide to run for an Executive Committee position on the day, but keep your eyes peeled for further info on SPA's channels and workshops at #SPANC25 for any advice.

If you'd like to reach out to find out more about what's involved, please do contact richard@spajournalism.com

You'll find a guide on how the AGM runs and how to get involved here.

Then get ready for #SPANC25 and the AGM where you'll have your say on the SPA, and how we help make a better future for student publications across the country.

Amendments

Now the agenda has been published, SPA full members have the opportunity to amend motions if they wish.

To do so, you need to email chair@spajournalism.com and richard@spajournalism.com with three pieces of information:

  1. Whether your motion is to 'add' text, or to 'remove' text
  2.  The full original motion text that you'd like to amend
  3. Your suggested new text. if applicable

The deadline for this is 5pm on Wednesday 2 April.

Any suggested amendments will not be allowed after this time, nor will any deemed invalid by the chair.

With thanks to Banner Buzz for providing the SPA with one of their free charity banners which we will be displaying at #SPANC25 and our 2025 AGM.

If you are a charity volunteer or want to let a charity you support know about this fantastic offer by Banner Buzz, click here and forward them the details so they too can benefit from this generous offer.
