How to join
We offer two types of membership, publication and individual.
Publication membership
This is our most popular type of membership and is open to student newspapers, magazines and websites across the UK and Ireland.
A publication membership covers all editors, journalists and photographers for the entirety of their time volunteering for their publication. This means if your publication is a member, you are automatically a member of the SPA.
You can check here if your publication is already a member.
To be eligible for publication membership, the running of the publication must primarily be carried out by students in further or higher education.
Usually applications for this type of membership come from a senior editor.
Individual membership
If your publication is not part of the the SPA, you can join as an individual member.
This membership often suits those on journalism courses or those who are not a member of the editorial committee of a publication.
By signing up for membership to the Student Publication Association you agree to abide by the Editor’s Code of Practice and our constitution.
You also agree to receive communications from us about the SPA, but we will not send your details to anyone else. It will be held by the SPA until you opt out of us processing your data, or until updated data is provided. Full details of how we process your data can be found in our privacy policy.
