Your say on the SPA: 2026 AGM agenda

This year's SPA National Conference is almost here, and we can't wait to be in Norwich for #SPANC26.

We've got a jam-packed agenda of panels, workshops, networking, and awards ahead as we prepare to descend on UEA in Norwich 27th - 29th March.

One of the most important things we’ll do over the course of the weekend will be to hold  our Annual General Meeting. Every year we bring our members together to elect a new leadership committee and determine the focus of our organisation for the year ahead.

This year’s AGM is going to be held on Sunday 29th March, the last day of #SPANC26, at 11:30am.

We’ll be discussing any motions which have been proposed by you, the members, receiving the  Trustees’ annual report and financial accounts, as well as electing all six Executive Officers, and a new Trustee.

Read how to get involved in our full guide.

To get ahead of how it will play out, and what you and other members will get a say on, take a look through our full 2026 AGM agenda.

Ultimately the AGM is one of the main ways of our members can lead and direct our organisation, through:
  1. Scrutinising the work of the SPA, by looking over and questioning reports and accounts
  2. Steering the direction and strategy of the SPA, by submitting, discussing and then voting on motions
  3. Standing for election, and voting to elect officers and trustees to lead the SPA for the next year (and beyond)

You can decide to run for an Executive Committee position on the day, but keep your eyes peeled for further info on the SPA's channels and workshops at #SPANC26 for any advice.

If you'd like to reach out to find out more about what's involved, please do contact emma@spajournalism.com or anttoni@spajournalism.com.

Find out more in our guide on how the AGM runs and how to get involved.

Then get ready for #SPANC26 and the AGM where you'll have your say on the SPA, and how we help make a better future for student publications across the country.

Amendments

Now the agenda has been published, SPA full members have the opportunity to amend motions if they wish.

To do so, you need to email chair@spajournalism.com and emma@spajournalism.com with three pieces of information:

  1. Whether your motion is to 'add' text, or to 'remove' text
  2.  The full original motion text that you'd like to amend
  3. Your suggested new text, if applicable

The deadline for this is 5pm on Wednesday 18th March.

Any suggested amendments will not be allowed after this time, nor will any deemed invalid by the chair.

Can’t make it? Register to vote at the AGM online

If you’re not able to make it to #SPANC26 to attend the AGM in person, your publication can still join the meeting online to cast your votes and follow the action. No, really, we had two coin tosses last year.

We operate a ‘one publication, one vote’ system. This means that your publication has one vote no matter how many members you have. However, you are welcome to bring as many people as you like to watch, so you can discuss your vote before you cast it

To register for the online AGM, please send an email to both jem@spajournalism.com and emma@spajournalism.com by 11:59 on 26th March.

If you’re interested in standing for a position and cannot make the AGM, you may be able to stand as a proxy, meaning someone else will read out a candidate statement on your behalf. If this applies to you, please email both jem@spajournalism.com and emma@spajournalism.com ASAP and by 11:59pm on 26th March at the latest.
