Colin Drury, freelance journalist and University of Lincoln lecturer will run through best practice for pitching to regional and national publications, the does and the don’t, and give feedback on any pitches you may have sent.

Before becoming a lecturer Colin worked for The Independent, Sheffield Star, and Halifax Evening Courier. His session will be packed with practical advice, hands on tasks, a a fair few anecdotes. What happened when he pitched a woman who'd had 3,000 partners to The Guardian? Spoiler alert: Almost instant commission.

Colin's session will cover:
  • What stories do commissioning editors want from freelancers?
  • How to prepare ahead of making a pitch
  • How to get your putch email sparkling
  • What to do once your commissioned
  • And how to see the money
