Tickets now on sale for #SPANC24 in Bristol
SPA 2024 National Awards officially open!
It's time...we're thrilled to announce that entry for this year's SPA National Awards is now open!
The awards celebrate the exceptional work you've been doing throughout the year, to make your publication and your work stand out from the crowd.
Submissions are due by 11:59pm on Monday, 19 February. All entries must be submitted via our online entry form.
Winners will be announced at our glitzy awards dinner at #SPANC24 in Bristol on 12 April.
This year, we have 10 publication awards and 15 individual awards to shoot for...
Publication awards:
- Best publication
- Best specialist publication
- Best newcomer publication
- Best design (newspaper and magazine)
- Best overall digital media
- Best website
- Best project or initiative
- Best culture publication or section(s)
- Best science publication or section
- Best sport publication or section(s)
Individual awards:
- Billy Dowling-Reid award for outstanding commitment
- Best reporter
- Best culture writer
- Rising star (best newcomer)
- Best news story
- Best investigation
- Best feature
- Best interview
- Best science or tech piece
- Best sports reporter
- Best comment piece
- Best lifestyle piece
- Best arts or culture piece
- Best creative piece
- Best student photographer
Plus, three of these awards are new, two of which you voted for at last year's AGM...
Best Culture Publication or Section(s):
This award recognises the best overall coverage of culture (for example: film, theatre, music, fashion) in a student publication. It is open to specialist culture publications, as well as culture sections within broader publications.
Best Culture Writer:
This award rewards consistently exceptional culture writing from an individual at a student publication. It will take into account the range of stories, impact on their student audience and the quality of journalism produced.
Best Investigation:
This award recognises investigations that brought new information to light and had an impact on campus (and beyond). It will take into account how you uncovered your scoop, so let us know about the process.

Our national award winners will be announced as part of the Student Publication Association National Conference 2024 (#SPANC24), the most-anticipated event of the student journalism calendar.
#SPANC24 is heading to Bristol from April 12th to 14th.
It's the first time our annual gathering of student journalists from across the UK & Ireland will be held in the South West, and we're delighted to be heading to the city of balloons, bridges and culture with a weekend of talks, workshops, networking and awards. Click below to find out more...
